I grew up around family dogs and finally got a dog of my own at the age of 18 – Felix, a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Through Felix I was introduced to dog training and behaviour, and I ended up dabbling in all sorts of different dog sports including obedience, rally, agility, gundog work and breed showing. Felix took me to Crufts in the breed ring many times and we often came home with rosettes!
Felix has come with me on many adventures and is now settled here in Cheshire with his daughter Tanith, grandaughter Hester, and a naughty little Basset Fauve de Bretagne named Gryff!

I went to college to study Animal Management and went on to complete a degree in Animal Science. This led me to working in a dog training and daycare centre in Wiltshire as a daycare worker and dog walker, and there I stayed for three years until I moved north to persue further studies. I am currently studying part-time towards a master’s degree in Conservation Biology and enjoy doing seasonal ecology work.
Since moving I found that I really missed working with dogs – there really is nothing like the greeting you get from a dog after building up that bond! One of the first things I do when I go back home to visit my family is go to my previous place of work to visit the dogs that I miss, and I really hope I can once again develop those kinds of bonds with the dogs of Cheshire.
I like to keep up to date with the latest science regarding animal behaviour, to ensure a better understanding of my own animals as well as those I work with. I employ only force-free techniques and do not use aversive tools such as choke chains. I have experience in working with reactive dogs so I am happy to take these dogs on as walking clients after a thorough prior consultation.
I am also an animal artist, working from home to draw and paint wildlife and pet portraits. Please check out my sister-business, RedPictus Designs – customers of PictusPaw get 10% off their RedPictus orders!
